Trauma Therapy
Traumatic experiences make you feel helpless, confused, ashamed, numb, and frightened. They can alter how you think about yourself, your world and other people. Afterall, it is only human to want to understand why something horrific happened to us and to draw conclusions like it’s because I did something wrong, the world is unsafe or I wasn’t doing enough to prevent this. A trauma can be childhood abuse and neglect, an abusive relationship with a romantic partner, illness or injury, witnessing and/or experiencing violence, oppression and discrimination, sexual assault, and much more. These experiences can have a lasting impact and cause difficulties in your life, health and relationships.
I have years of experience working with people like you. I can be your guide to understand what happened to you and how it is impacting your present. I will teach you specific skills to dial down your body’s alarm system and gradually help you build tolerance to reminders of the past. This will allow you to feel less hijacked by trauma reminders and better able to feel safe and connected to the present. Perhaps most importantly, I will help you to heal the wounds you carry that may say you're powerless, alone, unworthy, broken or bad. With my help the past will not burden so much of your present and you can move towards living a life that feels meaningful to you.
Modalities: Trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy, prolonged exposure, acceptance and commitment therapy
